About the Author

Jane W. Ball graduated from the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing, and subsequently received a BS from the Johns Hopkins University. She began her nursing career working in the pediatric surgical inpatient, emergency department, and outpatient clinic of the Johns Hopkins Medical Center, first as a staff nurse and then as a pediatric nurse practitioner. After recognizing a need to focus on the health of children she returned to school and obtained both a master of public health and a doctor of public health degree from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health with a focus on maternal and child health. After graduation Dr. Ball became the chief of child health services for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Health. In this capacity she oversaw the state-funded well-child clinics and explored ways to improve education for the state’s community health nurses. After relocating to Texas, she joined the faculty at the University of Texas at Arlington School of Nursing to teach community pediatrics to registered nurses returning to school for a BSN. During this time she became involved in writing her first textbook, Mosby’s Guide to Physical Examination, which is currently in its eighth edition. After relocating to the Washington, DC, area, she worked at Children’s National Medical Center on a number of federally funded projects. The first project in 1986, teaching instructors of emergency medical technicians from all states about the special care children need during an emergency revealed the shortcomings of the emergency medical services system for children. This exposure was a career-changing event. A textbook entitled Pediatric Emergencies, A Manual for Prehospital Providers was subsequently developed. A second project led to the development of a pediatric emergency education program for nurses in emergency departments to promote improved care for children. Both of these programs served as a foundation for other pediatric emergency education developed and sponsored by national organizations. For 15 years Dr. Ball managed the federally funded Emergency Medical Services for Children’s National Resource Center. As executive director, she provided and directed the provision of consultation and resource development for state health agencies, health professionals, families, and advocates about successful methods to improve the health care system so that children get optimal emergency care in all health care settings. After leaving that position, she continues to be engaged in many projects with a focus on the emergency care system. She is a consultant to the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, supporting state trauma system development. She recently completed a federally funded project to study whether the implementation of a statewide pediatric emergency department recognition program improved pediatric emergency care. In 2010, Dr. Ball received the Distinguished Alumna Award from the Johns Hopkins University.

 

Ruth C. McGillis Bindler received her BSN from Cornell University—New York Hospital School of Nursing. She worked in oncology nursing at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and then a public health nurse in Dane County, Wisconsin. Thus began her commitment to work with children as she visited children and their families at home, and served as a school nurse. Due to this interest in child health care needs, she earned her MS in child development from the University of Wisconsin. A move to Washington State was accompanied by a new job as a faculty member at the Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education in Spokane. Dr. Bindler was fortunate to be involved for over 38 years in the growth of this nursing education consortium, which is a combination of public and private universities and colleges and is now the Washington State University (WSU) College of Nursing. Ruth obtained a PhD in human nutrition at WSU. She taught theory and clinical courses in child health nursing, cultural diversity and health, graduate research, pharmacology, and assessment, as well as serving as lead faculty for child health nursing. She was the first Director of the PhD in Nursing program at WSU and most recently served as Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, which include Master of Nursing, Post-Masters certificates, PhD and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs. She recently retired and serves the college and profession as a professor emeritus, continuing work with graduate students and research. Her first professional book, Pediatric Medications, was published in 1981, and she has continued to publish articles and books in the areas of pediatric medications and pediatric health. Research foci have been childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cardiometabolic risk factors in children. Ethnic diversity and interprofessional collaboration have been additional themes in her work. Dr. Bindler believes that her role as a faculty member and administrator enabled her to learn continually, foster the development of students in nursing, lead and mentor junior faculty into the teaching role, and participate fully in the profession of nursing. In addition to teaching, research, publication, and leadership, she enhances her life by professional and community service, and by activities with her family.

Kay J. Cowen received her BSN from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, and began her career as a staff nurse on the pediatric unit of North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. She developed a special interest in the psychosocial needs of hospitalized children and preparing them for hospitalization. This led to the focus of her master’s thesis at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) where she received a master of science in nursing education degree with a focus in maternal child nursing.

 

Mrs. Cowen began her teaching career in 1984 at UNCG where she continues today as clinical professor in the Parent Child Department. Her primary responsibilities include coordinating the pediatric nursing course, teaching classroom content, and supervising a clinical group of students. Mrs. Cowen shared her passion for the psychosocial care of children and the needs of their families through her first experience as an author in the chapter “Hospital Care for Children” in Jackson & Saunders’ Child Health Nursing: A Comprehensive Approach to the Care of Children and Their Families published in 1993.

 

In the classroom, Mrs. Cowen realized that students learn through a variety of teaching strategies and became especially interested in the strategy of gaming. She led a research study to evaluate the effectiveness of gaming in the classroom and subsequently continues to incorporate gaming in her teaching. In the clinical setting, Mrs. Cowen teaches her students the skills needed to care for patients and the importance of family-centered care, focusing on not only the physical needs of the child but also the psychosocial needs of the child and family. During her teaching career, Mrs. Cowen has continued to work part time as a staff nurse: first on the pediatric unit of Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro and then at Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem. In 2006 she became the part-time pediatric nurse educator in Brenner’s Family Resource Center. Through this role she is able to extend her love of teaching to children and families.

 

Through her role as an author, Mrs. Cowen is able to extend her dedication to pediatric nursing and nursing education.

I bought this book thinking that i would need the most recent edition for my Pediatric rotation, but upon recieving this book i realized that the materials are the same from the 5th edition so i just stuck to the old book instead

Why to buy?

Why buy this version of the Episode I screenplay? Far from a facsimile, this is an edited version of the shooting script, modified to fit the action exactly. I DON'T recommend it. If you want a copy of the script, I recommend the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Illustrated Screenplay, which has storyboards of all the action and is the original shooting script, with scenes not appearing in the finished version. Only buy this if you want a version that fits the movie exactly.

FANTASTIC BOOK !!!

When I first heard of this trilogy and the story I didn't like it. Maybe because I liked Karl May, indians and cowboys more at that time. But my friend was so annoying about that, that I had to take the book and read it, just to get rid of him. And then...I just couldn't stop. The story is really great, and all the characters are fantastic. I just couldn't believe that one man can write such a masterpiece. It's amazing. So I had to read the book one more time, and once again. Then I was interested what does film look like and I borrowed it. Just great. I think George Lucas really hit the jackpot. And Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and others are in the heart of everyone who had ever read this book. All the glory to the Lucas :) and may the force be with you!!!!

Et would give all he has, but he has the feeling Brady needs saving from something before he can take what Et offers.

Then, the "something" shows up: Brady's dangerous family, all of them more than human -- including Brady, who has the ability to supercool matter with the slightest touch. Throw in the family talent for criminal activity, and it's an explosion waiting to happen.

Et wants to help him escape his past, but if Brady keeps disappearing, he may not get the chance.

Punk Rock Love!

Okay, it might just be that I'm a sucker for punk heroes, or it might be that Katey hawthorne can really write, using big ideas and great dialogue to delve deep into the emotions of two very different, but perfectly matched characters. This was the first of hers that I read, but it won't be the last. If only every one could star Brady! I totally fell for him.

Excellent male/male romance with a fresh, unique paranormal twist--but trust me, the focus is totally on the attraction, super hot love scenes, and real emotions between the two heroes. Highly recommended!

It has It's moments

Etienne may be shy and quiet but he's got just the right amount of heat to thaw bad boy Brady. Punk Rocker Brady has a secret - he can control elements to chill the air into ice. He also has a shady family that keeps trying to get him to do illegal jobs. Bookseller Et doesn't know any of this but he does know his chemistry with Brady is off the charts. Despite the hard-core exterior Et sees something vulnerable and worthwhile in Brady if only their pasts don't screw it up.

Riot Boy is a fast paced, fun filled ride filled with sex and a bit of the paranormal. Brady is a perfect goth punk boy with his attitude, shady past, and great punk references. Et is a perfect foil as a more staid and down to earth bookseller with a broken heart. Together they play off each other well and create some dynamic tension. Their chemistry is what really drives the story and there is a lot of sex in this novella. Almost too much as most of the action and character development happens during sex. This isn't bad as the writing and sex scenes are entertaining and smoking hot, but it does leave any significant plot development to happen off page. The reader is simply told about it later.

This is perhaps where the story has a few weaknesses. Although it's great fun to read and the characters are delightful, the actual plot and world building is pretty sparse. The paranormal element, in which Brady can control and manipulate the air to turn it colder, is almost non-existent. The story doesn't try to explain or really delve into this aspect at all and if anything, it comes across as distracting and unnecessary. Likewise all important plot developments happen off page. Most of the story builds up to Brady's showdown with his family but all the story does is recap what happened while Et (and presumably the reader) were asleep. It's unfortunate since the writing has a real knack to it that such important plot detail is omitted.

Despite this issue I'd still recommend Riot Boy. It's very enjoyable to read and filled with sex so anyone wanting something very erotic will be satisfied. It has a fun flair that lets you sink into the story and enjoy regardless of any other problems. While it's not perfect, this is still an entertaining and worthwhile read.

Couldn't put it down!

After enjoying Ms. Hawthorne's Equilibrium, I had high hopes for this book, and I was NOT disappointed. The story is told from Etienne's point of view, and I loved how he slowly got to know Brady (discarding first impressions along the way). I especially loved how Brady's character surprised me with his complexity. The minor characters add a lot to the story, and Ms. Hawthorne really gave them a lot of personality.

Once again the author took a common theme (opposits attract) and produced an uncommonly good story. I highly recommend not only this story, but her first one as well.

Cultivating my Yang, this one's a must read!

The Bingo Theory was an excellent read. I was very recently introduced to the theory of masculine and feminine energies and the way that they relate to the yin and yang of the Chinese tradition by my psychologist. This book was a simple introduction into a bigger concept and helped me to understand the concept and apply it to my life. According to "The Bingo Theory", we all have both masculine and feminine energies, but usually one is stronger and it overpowers the other energy, and that's how we become imbalanced. This book helps you to first discover which energy is stronger in you (are you a "masculine strength female" or a "feminine strength female”?), and how to find a happy balance where you are competitive and courageous but also kind, goal driven and focused with a purpose. This book was also a great follow up to the book “An Urban Monk” by Pedram Shojai that I had just finished. It was an absolute must read for me and I will use its guidance to transform my life and my relationships.

I have been watching Mimis and Alex videos for quite a long time now , and I was really excited to hear that Mimi would write a book about relationships as their relationship is so effortless yet loving and understanding-from the outside. I have to admit , at first I had a wrong impression about Mimi's life- I thought that everything was so perfect and that the success came easily for her- but I was wrong. As I watched more videos, I've learnt that Mimi is such an inspiring and passionate human being- you can even notice the sparkle in her eyes when she talks about something she loves or is passionate about. Especially her videos about how to be happy or how to deal with negativity helped me in a phase in my life, where I felt lost and buried myself in self-misery. As I am now in a long relationship , I still have not figured out how to have a good relationship with myself. That is also why I ordered the bingo theory- to learn more about myself and my inner feminine and masculine energies. I think that many people struggle to connect with their inner energy- as they are taught by society, school or even upbrining and parents on how to behave depending on your biological gender and what to think. For many years I felt that I was a feminine strength female- as I always found it hard to stand up for myself and always let go when I was in an argument. But I learned through this book that I am actually a masculine strength female as I have a very ambitious and independent mindset, but sometimes I find it hard to stop and just relax. I think the bingo theory gives you the best insight on how to balance those two energies and also to find out which one is dominant. Now that I've found out which is my actual strength energy, I will put my effort to become a bingo. I know it will be a long way until then, but the best motivation is that I have then inner peace with myself and accept myself and start loving myself for who I am- I know it sounds egoistic- but first you have to love yourself in order to love others.Mimi I want to thank you for this inspiring and helpful book you created, for sharing your ideas and beliefs not only through videos but also in a physical form. Being balanced and Mimi's aurea mediocritas

The topic of the book is timeless, because it talks about being balanced. The Mimi's concept is mostly related to the relationahips - with others or ourselves, so that is why this is the main subject of the book. I am grateful she decided to share this theory with the world, since it can help so many people to improve their relationships with others and themselves. I've been reading a lot of self-improvement books, because it's one of my favourite kind and Mimi's work is definitely one of those books which has joined to my books of value, meaning to those making me realise something which has the major impact on my life. "The Bingo Theory" made me realise how important is to be aware of the strength energy we have in order to be balanced and thus make better decisions in our lives concerning mainly relationships, but also our career, health, well-being and so on.
I appreciate this book, because apart from the theoretical aspect of the concept, Mimi shares her aurea mediocritas to put the theory, what I would call "the awareness", into practice - even if some of her advices seem down-to-earth, like changing a light-bulb or assemble a piece of furniture on our own in order to feel more confident and in control of our life, they are very telling examples. Sometimes smaller illustrations make us realise something big. That is what I appreciate the most in this kind of books. I would recommend this book to everyone aiming to be balanced in various aspects in life in today's world and I am sure that he will find something which will work for him personally. "The books that help you most are those which make you think the most. The hardest way of learning is that of easy reading; but a great book that comes from a great thinker is a ship of thought, deep freighted with truth and beauty". I think these words of Pablo Neruda perfectly fit Mimi and her book.
