This highly elastic steam entering alternately at each end of the cylinder, will drive the piston backwards and forwards notwithstanding the pressure of the atmosphere; and no condenser being used, the steam escapes through a tube called a waste-pipe. It is easy to conceive that the greater the elasticity of the steam, the greater is the chance of the boiler bursting; but the cheapness of these engines, owing to the simplicity of their construction, and the convenience of occupying a comparatively small space, makes them still occasionally adopted. The additional quantity of fuel required to bring the water to so high a temperature, and the total loss of the steam, would, I should have thought, more than have counterbalanced the advantage of cheapness in the original cost of the engine. The third fantasy outing (after Fire Angels) of the mage Dion Holyhands (aka Dion Demonslayer, Lady of Ruinac) takes her across the ocean to the land of Aramaya, the center of civilization and, she suspects, the current home of her missing niece, Syndal (aka Dally). Dion and her friend Kitten survive shipwreck to reach Akieva, the capital of a country with most of its features borrowed (if intelligently) from czarist Russia, and soon encounter the niece. But Dion's niece turns out to be in thrall to a powerful conspiracy of necromancers, and is in fact possessed by Dion's old nemesis, the demon Bedazzer. In rapid succession, Dion begins an affair with the demon-hunter Count Nikolai Terzu, rescues her niece, is reconciled with her ex-husband and has to chase down the necromancers to their stronghold in the southern marshes of Aramaya's latest conquest, Mazorra. Even Dion needs help on the last errand, and gets it from Aliceander the Crocodile Goddess, ruler of the marshes. Like its predecessors, the book combines romance, mystery and adventure in a fantasy setting, and in spite of the author's very fair degree of skill, this particular troika doesn't pull well in harness. Dion's obsession with her childlessness will surely grow tedious for some readers. Routley deserves credit for superior world-building and above average characterization, however; even if she isn't doing anything new here, she is at least covering familiar ground with more aplomb than are many of her colleagues. not quite as good as MAGE HEART and FIRE ANGLES

i was an avid fan of routley after reading the first two books about Dion Holyhands, but this book (which i waited for with baited breath)was a bit disappointing. Dion, for reasons that are never quite explained, decides to head off to Aramaya to search for her missing niece. instead of concentrating on the magical aspects of what was supposed to be the magical epicenter of Dions world, the book concentrates more on Dions wish to have children, her failed marriage, her current love affair, and her love for her niece whom she hated in the second book. once again, Routley manages to wrap up the entire novel in the last thirty or so pages. This book also ends with unanswered questions, baiting us for another installment for this magical soap opera. quite frankly, i was expecting more.

fantasy at its' very best

The powerful Mage Dion Holyhands the Dragonslayer believes her missing niece Dally lives in Akieva, the capital of Aramaya. Dion travels across the ocean in search of Dally, but her ship is wrecked. Dion and her companion Kitten manage to survive and make it to the capital city where they meet Dally.
To the mage's shock, her relative seems to be a slave to a cartel of necromancers. However, Dion learns that her worst enemy, Bedazzer the Demon, possesses her niece. Dion knows she must confront her worst nightmare, a fight to almost certainly the death with Bedazzer. If she is fortunate to come out of this alive and awake, she next must challenge the necromancer crowd. Only with victories against impossible odds will Dion be able to free her niece.
ARAMAYA, the third novel in Jane Routley's superb Dion series is an interesting tale that shows the author's ability to paint vivid descriptions of other worlds. The characters are fully developed, adding to an overall sense of exotic realism. The story line is fast-paced and filled with action as expected from an author who in a short time has become renowned for her romantic fantasies.

Interesting but not a page turner

Dion is searching for her niece Dally and gets the help of a prince. Later she has a lasting love affair with him but is still in love with Shad. She is confused and doesn't know what to do to get over Shad. Anger, love, and tenderness still exist for him as well as the desire to get back together with him. Meanwhile Bedazzer/Andre still exists and when Dion finds out about the powerful necromancers that are experimenting fate may play a hand in bringing them together for one last time ...

I'm an IMG new at this USMLE thing, this book has been incredibly useful, it's different because it gives the student perspective about the exams, but most important: how to prepare for it and succeed! it offers the student support and gives the tools and knowledge to understand how the USMLE test works, specially for students like me who are lacking of guidance and knowledge of this exams. It's a very friendly book to read with great examples, that i guess only us as med students understand. So if you are clueless about this unknown journey, I totally recommend it!

His laughter clanged in the open café. It was a sound Leah had so rarely heard that she stared at him, her breath caught somewhere in her throat.

That lean chest rumbled as if he couldn't contain it. From the long column of his throat to the sharp grooves in his sliced cheeks...he was gorgeous to behold.

It seemed the café froze around them to take in the sight.

A woman at the next table stilled with her coffee cup halfway to her mouth, her gaze eating him up. Still laughing, he pushed back the thick lock of jet-black hair that fell onto his forehead.

And the solid gold band on his finger glinted in the streetlight.

The twinkle of the metal struck Leah in the chest as if it were an arrow.

it was ok

I found it sad that the hero, and Heroine let so much time slip by, before getting to know one another. They kept so many secrets from one another, causing each other to mistrust the other. Leah married Stavros when she was only 18. He married her to keep her safe. So he only married her out of duty. He was true to his word. A very honorable man. He put her up in a nice apartment, and made sure she had everything she needed. She felt like the apartment was a jail cell. She always had a security detail that tracked her every movement, and reported back to Stavros. He never came by and checked on her, or talked to her. Both were carrying around guilt over the death of his sister, and her best friend. He had blamed Leah for his sister's death.

Leah had called Stavros many times, but he never took the time to call her back. She wanted to get on with her life, and follow her dreams. She wanted to be a fashion designer. She loves creating clothes, and she is good at it. She can't touch her trust fund without his permission. She needs to dip into it, to get started. So she had to find a way to bring him to her. She put on a slinky dress, and showed up to a party. She got drunk, and out of nowhere there he was. After she sobered up, Stavros realized that his wife wasn't the young girl that he remembered. She was all grown up, and sexy as heck. He had no idea that she designed outfits, and he wanted to get to know his wife. He wanted to know more about her, and her life. He did seem to hold his self back, and so did she.
The one thing that impressed me about the hero, and heroine, is they didn't cheat. He still wore his wedding band, and was never with another woman. The first time they did make love, she was a virgin.
I see others loved this book, but for me, the story, plot, and characters didn't pull me into the book like I had hoped. I did finish it. It wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't by any means my favorite book.

I'm Sorry I Cannot Recommend

Not a good read in my opinion...not that it counts for much. What is with the Tycoons, Sheikhs, Princes, Kings, and other dignitaries that they treat women terribly? In HP a lot of the men are emotionally stunted, emotionally abusive, even physically and sexually rough and hold a woman/women captive. What is up with that? Is this the Formula Harlequin Presents puts forth for authors to follow? And why won't these dastardly men let the woman/women talk and explain what is going on. But no, they are so high and mighty that they think they know what everyone else thinks and feels. Let's not forget how hard-headed they are.

This young woman was held prisoner for five unnecessary years and was not guilty of what Stavros accused her of. The only reason I gave this two-stars instead of one is because during her five-year captivity Stavros remained faithful. I was shocked by that bit of a moral compass. Maybe HP is just not for me although I have read several good ones.

About the Author
Nicholas Aroney is a Professor of Constitutional Law and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow at the Centre for Public, International and Comparative Law, in the TC Beirne School of Law at the University of Queensland.

Peter Gerangelos is an Associate Professor of Law in the University of Sydney and was Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2006-2007. Formerly he was Principal Solicitor in the Office of the Australian Government Solicitor and recipient of the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Post-Graduate Award in 1996.

Sarah Murray is an Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia where she teaches Constitutional Law and researches in the areas of Public Law and legal institutional change. She is the Western Australian Convenor and a co-opted Council Member of the Australian Association of Constitutional Law and a co-Convenor of the Electoral Regulation and Research Network. Her Ph.D. thesis was awarded the 2011 Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal for Law by Monash University and was published as a monograph in 2014. She is a co-author of Winterton's Australian Federal Constitutional Law (2014) and has also published public law scholarship across a range of Australian and international journals.

James Stellios is an Associate Professor at the Australian National University College of Law where he teaches public law. His primary research interest is constitutional law, and he has published widely in that field.
